  1. ASTRO CONTROL
  2.  
  3. YOU'LL NEED:
  4. Paper
  5. Crayons or markers
  6. White crafts glue
  7. 1 shoe box with lid
  8. Cotton balls or buttons
  9. 1 long twist-tie, folded in half
  10. Spool of thread
  11. One 11-inch cardboard tube (paper towel tube)
  12. Tape
  13. 1 pipe cleaner or drinking straw
  14. Plastic lid, egg carton cup, or nut cup
  15. Paper fastener
  16.  
  17. STEP 1
  18. To make a sky screen:  
  19. Cut a square out of paper, and draw a picture of outer space on the paper with crayons, or markers.  Then glue it on the box.

  21. STEP 2
  22. To make an orbit switch:  
  23. Glue cotton balls onto the box.  Or if you like, draw numbers or shapes on small squares of paper. And then glue them onto the box.

  25. STEP 3
  26. To make a lunar tuner: 
  27. Punch a small hole in the box.  Next, push the unfolded ends of twist-tie through the hole about 1/2 inch.  Then bend ends flat against inside of box.

  29. Push the spool over the folded end of the twist-tie.  And then bend the folded end of the twist-tie over the edge of the spool.

  31. STEP 4
  32. To make a steer stick:  
  33. On the side of the box, trace around the end of the cardboard tube.  With adult help, cut out the traced circle.  Then push the tube through the hole.  You may want to tape the tube to the inside of the box to secure it.

  35. STEP 5
  36. To make an asteroid antenna:  
  37. Wrap a pipe cleaner tightly around a pencil, and then remove it.  Now you have a curly pipe cleaner.

  39. Gently pull on both ends of the pipe cleaner to separate the coils. Punch a hole in the shoe box with a pencil, and then push the pipe cleaner into the hole.
